The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of joint immobilization on morphometric parameters and glycogen content of soleus muscle treated with clenbuterol. Male Wistar (3-4 months old) rats were divided into 4 groups (N = 6 for each group): control, clenbuterol, immobilized, and immobilized treated with clenbuterol. Immobilization was performed with acrylic resin orthoses and 10 µg/kg body weight clenbuterol was administered subcutaneously for 7 days. The following parameters were measured the next day on soleus muscle: weight, glycogen content, cross-sectional area, and connective tissue content. Background: D-Hydroxyphenylglycine is considered to be an important chiral molecular building-block of antibiotic reagents such as pesticides, and β-lactam antibiotics. The process of its production is catalyzed by D-hydantoinase and D-carbamoylase in a two-step enzyme reaction. How to enhance the catalytic potential of the two enzymes is valuable for industrial application. Abstract The aim of this work is to evaluate the performance of upflow anaerobic fixed bed reactors filled with espresso coffee capsules to treat sanitary sewage. Three reactors (R1, R2 and R3) were constructed in blue PVC pipes measuring 30 cm height and 150 mm diameter and filled with coffee capsules made of aluminum and plastic. The sewage from the pre-treatment phase of the wastewater treatment plant of the Federal University of Lavras fed the system. Una marea negra provocada por el vertido deliberado o accidental de crudos de petróleo, aceite combustible, fangos o residuos petrolíferos y productos refinados, provoca un gran impacto sobre los ecosistemas marinos y costeros. En este trabajo, se desarrolla un producto compuesto por bacterias marinas inmovilizadas por atrapamiento en k- carragenina semirrefinada y en cuya formulación no se incluyen nutrientes. Los resultados muestran que la variante de inmovilización más ventajosa se obtuvo cuando fue empleada la κ-carragenina al 1% gelificada con una solución de KCL 1.5 M.
